Aerobics Classes

Jump. Dance. Sweat!!

Aerobics classes involve rhythmic exercises performed to music. The movements work the entire body by taking your muscles and joints through their full range of movement, enhancing flexibility and improving strength and your cardiovascular fitness. The classes are a great way to manage your weight loss while having fun and joining people with similar goals.

Various aerobic workout styles and cardio classes include Spinning, Kick Box, Bench Step, Hi/Low impact, Aqua Fit, and various stylized dance workouts like Jazzercise, or the newest latin rhythm influenced, 'Zumba' workout. During a class, the rhythmic movement is mixed with various squats, lunges, kicks, running and jumping and so on. Latin, disco, jazz, rock, tribal, and other types of music supply the tempo and rhythm for the exercises.

A word of caution, 'Diva girl', slow your roll and resist the desire to look like the dance video version of Paula A. or Beyonce´, or else tomorrow, and for days after, that you will feel like you've been trampled by a mob of shoppers during the first 60 seconds of a one day sale.

Miss Fitness-Diva-Knows can remember this painful (ouch, ouch!!) story from a newbie 'Diva' who after enjoying her class way too much, could not use the stairs in a normal way because she hurt so much. To avoid the extreme and excruciating leg and butt pain she endured for three days, she had to bump down the stairs (bump, thump, bump, thump...) like a toddler.

Gradual progression is the key for your cardio classes.

Take your time over several weeks, and ease into the workout by performing a low-impact version of the routine until it starts to get easy. As your fitness level improves you will find yourself gradually positioning yourself from waaay in the back of the class to the middle of the class and then, (gasp!!) - you'll be right up in front (with the instructor) doing the higher-impact version with energy and confidence.

Let's take a look at what aerobics training does for your health...
