Beating the Body Fat Woes

As much as we dread the body fat woes, fat or adipose tissue is essential to normal body functioning. We need to consume some healthy fats in our weight loss efforts. Fat regulates your body temperature, and is the main form of the body's energy storage. Fat is found in all cells, surrounds most nerves, cushions and insulates organs and tissues. Fat is also necessary in the usage of the vitamins A, D, E, and K by the body. These vitamins are broken down and dispersed (soluble) in the chemical reaction with fat.

The distribution of fat tends to be around both the upper body and lower body. In some individuals fat is mainly distributed in the abdomen, chest and arms. Women have more essential adipose tissue compared to men due to hormonal and child bearing issues. Obesity is having an excess of fat tissue regardless of your weight and believe it or not ‘diva-girl’, there is such a dilemma as being ’skinny fat’. A good weight management program through a reduction of excess body fat plays an important role in maintaining good health and fighting disease.

Body Composition is a common test to measure and evaluate muscle, fat, and sometimes water. The fat measured in terms of percentage, is sometimes used as an estimate of how healthy or fit you are. A desirable range for women is between 20 – 27 percent. A measurement of 18.9% for a young woman aged 19-24 would be considered ‘excellent’. A woman aged 40 - 44 would be rated ‘fair’ with a measurement of 29.3% of fat present.

No matter how hard we try to avoid the concept of physical exercise, we can’t escape the importance of having a more physically active lifestyle. Exercise plays a major role in promoting more fat loss, maintaining and improving muscle tissue. Exercise also helps to prevent muscle loss, conserving your metabolic rate to achieve successful long-term weight loss and weight management.

You can win the battle against the body fat woes by avoiding calorie splurges with overeating or alcohol over consumption. Fuel your body regularly throughout the day with adequate nutrition and your metabolism will speed up. Your energy level will increase and…

fat loss becomes easier!

Striving for a healthy lifestyle by eating nutritious foods, cutting out junk foods and staying as active and as physically fit as possible are the keys to beating the body fat woes.
