How to Make Exercise a Permanent Habit

Today is the day you develop your exercise motivation and enjoy the benefits of health and fitness. Today is the day you get it - the important role fitness plays in a better quality of life for you with improved health and longevity. Fitness should not be an option. We cannot make excuses!

No more excuses, it's time to exercise!!!

Let’s discuss how to employ the technique to make exercise a constant habit in your everyday living. Here is a quotation I came across recently:

You automatically wash your face and brush your teeth every day; it is a learned habit. Working out can become one too. But in order to make it a regular part of your schedule, you need to find the right exercise motivation.

In reality, the development of a habit, good or bad (say, smoking for example), starts out as an idea - then you act upon that idea repeatedly over time. The ‘idea’ is something that you decided benefits you in some way; smoking calms your nerves and before you know it, the smoking habit has YOU. The initial phase of fitness motivation requires a person to make a decision to get healthy or become fit.

This phase just takes a moment, maybe 2-3 seconds, but it actually takes about 21 days to make habits that will fuel your desire to obtain your goals. And if you work exercise into your daily thought patterns and activities everyday, every single day, for 3 weeks – or sometimes less, the habit is locked in and set. Exercise has become as automatic and routine as washing your face and brushing your teeth! Now… you wouldn’t think of going out without practicing good hygiene, would you?

Bad habits are easy to form and hard to break. Good habits on the other hand, take a little more guts to form - but once again, when they’re locked in you’ve got something that is an automatic reflex. This is where the mind and body connect. Use the exercise motivation for your workouts to be a catalyst in all areas of your life: work, relationships, church, and etc.

Exercising your body on a consistent frequency will give you the stamina and energy to think and concentrate better and enable you to perform the various work and acts of service that you’ve taken on. Most of you will experience a total change in your behavioral or personal characteristics during this time. Your self-confidence and self-image is ‘suddenly’ strengthened and more positive.

Think of the caterpillar becoming a butterfly and flying so beautifully...

To encourage making exercise a permanent habit, make sure your circle of associates includes fit and healthy people. Now you are living and exemplifying fitness in mind and body, your example will inspire others. Be a role model to another person who is challenged with weight management or mentor someone who has wellness issues. People will admire and be amazed by your exercise motivation and your new work ethic at work and at play.

Your exercise motivation will bring you to another area of improvement; eating healthy is now a habit for you too as a result of your consistency and dedication to your exercise program. In fact eating junk food or over-indulging with food makes you feel uncomfortable or slightly ill.

With a little practice and diligence you can develop and build your exercise motivation 'muscle' and succeed at any healthy lifestyle habits you want to take on!
